We have been thinking about visiting Terry and Ann in San Diego for quite a while. So happen, Fei’s oldest sister Ying came from Taipei to visit her daughters in LA, then we decided to combine these two visits into a short trip to visit Terry in San Diego and Ying in LA.

August 29, 2024 - Traveled from Houston to San Diego
We left Houston in the afternoon for a 3 1/2 hours flight to San Diego. After arriving, we rented a car, drove about 30 minutes and checked into Courtyard by Marriott in San Diego's Rancho Bernardo area late in the evening.
August 30, 2024 - Drove to LA and Back to San Diego
We got up earlier for a 3 1/2 hours drive to LA to visit Ying. At the time we visited Ying, she stayed in her youngest daughter Sharon's house. We ran into some LA traffic as usual, but it was not too bad.
When we got to Sharon’s house, then we realized that she lives in a mansion on a hilltop with only 7 other families in a gated area. She has 7.4 acres of land with double fences, private swimming pool and basketball court. We are so happy for them.
We chatted a little bit with Ying, then we took her out to eLoong Dumplings for lunch (per Sharon’s recommendation). They have a lot of Chinese Northern Noodle dishes just like the Dough Zone in Houston. It was good food and we ate a lot.
After lunch, we went to nearby Westlake Village and has a nice relaxing time with coffee, juice and a lot of catching up with Ying.
After we got back, we met Sharon’s husband Chuong, and their 2 kids Benjamin and Gwyneth.
Then, Sharon and Chuong treated us dinner at a very nice Italian restaurant called BASTA in Agoura Hills. The food were delicious and we had wonderful time there. At the same time, Chuong told us that he spotted movie stars and celebrities there sometime.
Since we had another 3 1/2 hours to drive back to San Diego, we said goodby to them at BASTA and started to drive back. With the traffic, it took us 4 hours to get back to our hotel.
It was a very nice visit to Ying and Sharon's family.
August 31, 2024 - Visit Terry and Ann
We got to Terry’s house in the morning. This was the 2nd time we visited them at this location. They just did remodeling work and the house looks great.
Terry had an operation earlier this year and he is in recovery mode now. At the same time he was still very active in doing chores around the house. Unfortunately, he hurt his back a little bit when he tried to lift some heavy stuff. However, he was doing much better comparing to a week ago. He found this EMS Microcurrent Mini Massager Machine online and it helps his healing a lot. As part of our conversation, I told him that I had ankle issues recently, he just ordered one and shipped it to us without even mentioned it. That is Terry, such a sweet and nice guy.
They took us to Bafang Dumplings in San Diego. It is a noodle house with similar Chinese Northern food like the eLoong we went yesterday. Even better then the Dough Zone in Houston. We ordered a lot of dishes and enjoyed everyone of them.
Then, Terry and Ann took us to Cabrillo National Monument California. In 1542, Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo climbed out of his boat and onto shore, becoming the first European to set foot on what is now the West Coast of the United States. Cabrillo National Monument not only tells the story of this 16th-century exploration but also houses a wealth of cultural and natural resources.
There is a visitor center and several hiking trails. The view of San Diego City and Coronado Island is just breathtaking. One other attraction at this location is the Old Point Loma Lighthouse. We were just wandering around to enjoy the view and also hiked up to check out the lighthouse up close. It was an enjoyable visit to this monument. Ann was so nice to get a printed picture of Old Point Loma Lighthouse for us as souvenirs.
Then, they took us to Del Mar for dinner. Prior to dinner, they took us to Del Mar Beach to see the sunset. There were a lot of people dipping into the ocean, playing beach volleyball, and walking around. We found a nice bench to sit down, waited for sunset and enjoyed the scenery. Terry calculated the time and it did not take long for us to see the beautiful sunset.
Later, we went to Il Fornaio Cucina Italian for dinner. It is on the 2nd floor with both indoor and outdoor seating areas. There were a lot of people there and they took over all the outdoor seating. Therefore, we have to take an indoor table. However, we were able to just walking around on the patio to enjoy the scenery. With the nice San Diego weather, it was just very enjoyable.
The food were delicious and the portion were big too. We will go back again if we ever in the San Diego area.
It was a very nice visit of Terry and Ann.
